As part of the 50th anniversary commemoration of the founding of the government in 1998,
the Korea Law Professors Association hosted the first Korean Law Scholars Conference,
which was later renamed the second Korean Legal Scholars Conference in 2000.
The conference was jointly sponsored by the Supreme Court, the Ministry of Justice,
the Constitutional Court, and the Korea Law Professors Association,
and was held until the fifth Korean Legal Scholars Conference in 2006.
On March 29, 2007, the "The Korean Society of Law Promotion Act" was promulgated,
leading the Korean Society of Law to take charge of the Korean Legal Scholars Conference.
From 2008, the conference has been jointly hosted by five institutions
including the Supreme Court, the Constitutional Court, the Ministry of Justice,
the Korean Bar Association, and the Korea Law Professors Association.
